830 cases on the Botswana Speaks platform!

Since April 2013, constituents from Nata/Gweta, Boteti North, Maun West and South East South have been using the Botswana Speaks platform (U-Speak) to share issues, opinions or to request information from their Members of Parliament.
Botswana Speaks gave a chance to Members of Parliament from those four constituencies to receive input and to reply directly to them via the online platform or via SMS! At the end of the pilot (March 2014) there were 830 cases on U-Speak!

 


The initiative has raised citizens’ awareness on the role that the Parliament plays as an institution and on the role MPs play as representatives. Constituency meetings that took place during the pilot phase have helped to get a feel of people’s concerns and excitement on the implementation of such project.

I am member of the Botswana Speaks Parliamentary Initiative Communications Team. I am the Head of Policy Development Unit of Gov2u. I joined Gov2U in 2006 as a communications’ officer in the Unit in ICT for identity and e-citizen privacy. My main focus is awareness raising and communication strategy in the unit. Prior to joining the team, I worked as a marketing manager in the “ATHENS 2004” Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games; and as a marketing and public relations executive at Grant Thornton and AC&C. I hold an MSc in Social and Public Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelors in Communication, Media and Culture from Athens Panteion University.
